What is a Dental Implant?
A dental implant is a way to replace a missing tooth or teeth. A dental implant is an artificial tooth root which supports a crown, bridge or a fixed or removable denture. In the case of a single missing tooth, a porcelain crown, that looks just like a natural tooth, can be attached to the implant which saves the neighboring teeth from being altered like in a traditional bridge. Dental implants can also be used under dentures or to replace longer spans of missing teeth. Implants offer a drastic increase in stability so that you don’t have to worry about anything moving around when eating, smiling or talking- no one would ever know you had a missing tooth!
How long does the process of dental implants take?
Each case is different, but following implant placement you should expect to have your final restoration anywhere from 3-6 months. If the tooth or teeth you are missing are in the front, there are a variety of options for temporary restoration so you can keep on smiling during the healing phase.
